Revit MEP Essentials for Design Engineers

Building services design engineers who wish to learn how to use Revit specifically for efficient design and analysis (not modelling and drafting) need something a little different from an essentials course. They need to know just enough of Revit's project setup and modelling tools to allow them to conduct the critical analysis and design for a building's services. That's why we developed this 2-day Revit MEP Essentials for Design Engineers. If you need to know how to successfully define spaces and zones within a project, so you can analyse building's performance . . . adding mechanical, piping and electrical systems to establish your design intent . . . then this course is for you.

Course content for Revit MEP Essentials for Design Engineers:

  • Understand how BIM differs from CAD, and its benefits to the building services design engineer
  • Use the interface for tips that assist you while you work
  • Create sections and elevations with ease, visualise your model in 3D, review alternative designs
  • Import and link architecture projects
  • Understand spaces - using Revit for engineering data calculations
  • Represent the area required by each piece of mechanical equipment, and then use for analysis
  • Understand Revit's energy analytical model, work with heating / cooling load calculations
  • Analyse air exchange based on room volumes
  • Use Revit to understand the amount of electricity needed for your building
  • Link to analysis software, such as IES
  • Colourise your model based on mechanical / piping flow rates - and get the sizing right
  • Check for interference, check whether design values meet engineering standards
  • Size HVAC systems and verify pressure loss calculations
  • Create schedules that check equipment for correct properties
  • Create supply and return piping, adjust sizing, check piping for interferences
  • Schedule piping for quantity and analysis
  • Size plumbing based on fixture unit values, calculate for flow
  • Work with fire protection systems
  • Model electrical systems quickly and effectively
  • Define voltages, assign devices to circuits, track loads, and automatically create panel schedules

Benefits of Revit Training

Get a greater understanding of your building’s service requirements
Create better coordination within the systems you design
Reduce potential design mistakes and oversized systems
Generate reports and schedules quickly and efficiently

Expected outcome

As a result of attending this training you will understand Revit’s interface and terminology, set up and begin a project, analyse your building model for performance, such as heating and cooling, flow rates and pressure drops, create and modify ductwork, piping, electrical systems based on the requirements of your building, produce reports from your 3D model on the performance of your design, analyse and convey the results.
