Using Navisworks in a BIM Workflow

This course teaches how to use Navisworks to consolidate civil, architectural, structural, and MEP models into one BIM model. Starting with an AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing file, you will append various Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Inventor models and check for conflicts. Next, you will use review and mark-up tools for communicating issues across disciplines. Finally, you will use TimeLiner, Animator, and Clash Detective to simulate construction and highlight potential issues such as on-site clashes.

  • Becoming familiar with the Navisworks user interface
  • Setting up and creating a federated model
  • Using viewing tools to accomplish effective model navigation
  • Working with viewpoints and model sectioning for improved visualisation
  • Effective object selection and property review
  • Achieving consistency in all tasks using selection and search sets
  • Review and report using measure and markup tools
  • Set up and run clash tests and report on model interferences using the Clash Detective
  • Incorporate efficiencies into your clash detection strategy
  • Work with updated project models and review changing clash test results
  • Create animations for improved presentation and visualisation
  • Create 4d construction simulations and identify opportunities for improved workflows
  • Use external project plans to drive change and gain efficiencies
