Autodesk Inventor® includes a powerful feature known as the Content Centre—a comprehensive library containing hundreds of thousands of standard parts, governed by widely recognised engineering standards such as ISO, ANSI, and DIN. This invaluable resource significantly streamlines the design process by providing quick access to commonly used components, reducing the need to model these parts from scratch.

One of the key strengths of the Content Centre is its flexibility and customisability. Organisations can tailor the library to align with their internal processes by assigning company-specific part numbers, replacing or enhancing the standard metadata provided by Inventor®. In addition to modifying existing standard parts, users can publish their own custom components into the Content Centre, making them readily available for reuse across the business. This not only supports consistency in design but also ensures all team members are working with the most up-to-date and approved parts.

When used in conjunction with iParts and iAssemblies, the Content Centre becomes an even more powerful tool for promoting design efficiency and standardisation. For example, if your company assembles a range of motors using a variety of bespoke components, these parts—once modelled—can be added to the Content Centre. This enables other designers within the organisation to seamlessly access and reuse these components in future projects, ensuring both accuracy and design integrity.

A practical application might include editing a standard item such as an ISO 4016 bolt, customising it to reflect your organisation’s internal part number and naming conventions.
