Smarter Building Podcast Ep. 11 - Building Safety Act: Does it Deliver?
In this episode of our Smarter Building podcast, we caught up with Dame Judith Hackitt, author of the 2018 "Building a Safer Future" report and adviser to UK and Australian Governments on Building Safety.
Following the Grenfell Tower fire, Dame Judith Hackitt was appointed to lead the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety. The resulting report, known as "Building a Safer Future" was published in 2018 and presented a comprehensive assessment of the shortcomings in the system, along with recommendations for improving building safety and regulation.
As an esteemed adviser to both the UK and Australian Governments on Building Safety, Dame Judith brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the discussion. Join us as we explore the pivotal themes of building safety, regulations, best practices, as well as the impact of her ground-breaking report on the construction industry and whether the government has gone far enough to respond to them.
"It has to be said that the government has done exactly what I asked them to do, which was not to cherry pick from my recommendations. And the way in which they have gone about developing the Building Safety Act, has remained very true to those recommendations."
