In this blog, our MEP Specialist Simon Locke explores the new features introduced in Revit 2026, with a focus on the revamped Electrical Conductor and Cable Settings. While much of the update highlights improvements in analytical capabilities, one of the standout changes is the enhanced control over electrical conductor properties. These updates mark a shift towards greater flexibility and regional adaptability in electrical design workflows.
Where a lot of the changes for MEP in Revit 2026 were focused on the analytical features, one of the more notable changes was the electrical conductor properties. Previously these were managed from within the Electrical settings, whereas now in 2026 they have their own individual menu accessed from the Manage Tab > MEP Settings.
The new Electrical Conductor and Cable Settings dialog enables users to define and manage conductor types and cable configurations tailored to specific regional requirements. This feature replaces the previous wire sizing system, offering a more flexible approach to electrical design.
This tab is split into three sections. The first is ‘Conductor Materials’ which as you can see is the same as it was in previous versions, the data here has been added into the template from the UK wiring regs regarding spec and reference method, these can be customised as required. Note this is using a default UK Revit Template. (Electrical-DefaultGBRENU.rte).
Temperature Ratings and Insulation Materials can also be added and removed as required, as with previous versions.
You can add and remove any conductor size you require, note these are no longer linked to any ratings or ‘Ampacity’ data as in previous versions.
Tip – if you would like to add the square symbol to the size name, copy and paste it from the Windows Character Map as shown below.
All of the data from the previous tabs are then combined to create cable types to which you can select and specify the sizes available.
To sum up, you can now specify the cable type and size of your circuits independent of connected load or the protective device rating as per previous versions. Therefore, supporting more varied regional workflows and standards.

By decoupling conductor specifications from load-based sizing and offering a dedicated, centralised interface, Autodesk has empowered MEP professionals with greater control and flexibility.
