Lomans safeguards its metadata with Symetri ArchiveHub synchronised backup

Meet Lomans

Founded as an electrical shop in 1918, Lomans is now a leading, family-owned installation company in the Netherlands with 450 employees. Known for its expertise in MEP, AEC, and smart building solutions, Lomans delivers tailored, end-to-end services—design, installation, management, and maintenance—for clients in sectors such as retail, housing, healthcare, and education.

The challenges

Having a data backup is great; having a double backup is even better.

Lomans is gradually implementing Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) across all operations, with the aim of centralising project data—from tenders and engineering to construction and maintenance. Whilst it makes sense to have everything housed in one location, Data and Information Manager Bas Spaan also believed that such a benefit carried its' own risk. With 390 of the company’s 450 employees using ACC daily, and significant business dependence on the platform, even a short outage could result in considerable financial loss. As the business rapidly expanded—growing from 20 to over 1,000 projects in ACC—the need for a reliable, independent backup solution became increasingly urgent.

The solution

Bas Spaan knew his search was over when he discovered ArchiveHub: “Symetri was the only provider capable of backing up all our metadata.” The initial meeting between Lomans and Symetri proved highly productive. While ArchiveHub met Lomans’ needs, Bas also proposed enhancements—input that Symetri welcomed. Their willingness to incorporate feedback fostered a strong collaborative relationship. “They weren’t just offering a solution—we found a partner who understood our business and was open to evolving with us,” says Bas. With a tailored solution in place, Lomans now performs weekly backups from ACC. In the event of a service interruption, the company would face only minimal disruption, with data easily recoverable.

The Results

ArchiveHub has provided Lomans with a reliable and proven business continuity solution, easing pressure on the IT team by ensuring data remains accessible at all times. “I never want to say no to my clients,” says Bas Spaan, “and now I don’t have to.” Looking ahead, Lomans is exploring ways to improve post-project support, particularly for completed projects requiring simple access to handover data. While live projects demand broad access for many users, the maintenance phase typically requires limited, read-only access. Lomans and Symetri continue to collaborate on enhancing these capabilities.

Challenges

  • Requirement for full metadata backup, not just backup for documents
  • Continuous metadata access was vital for Lomans and its clients.

  • Safeguard the business against potential revenue loss from system outages

  •  The company wanted a robust and reliable 24/7 backup facility

Solutions

  •  Symetri ArchiveHub enables the archiving of all data held within Autodesk Construction Cloud (as well as BIM 360)

  •  Lomans now replicates all project data held in ACC on a weekly basis

  • Symetri provides an automated weekly service that backs up Lomans data to local storage in Azure Blob storage.

Benefits

  • Reduces risk of data loss and ensures continuous access.

  • Strengthens business continuity and operational confidence.

  • Guarantees full client access to handover data.

  • Protects against future disputes with complete data replication.

"The thing that makes Symetri stand out is that they listen. They embrace customer feedback into their development processes and really respond to ideas. They had no hesitation about looking afresh at aspects of their solution when I had some suggestions. This 'working together' aspect bonded our two companies. They didn’t just have a solution I could rely on, they were a team I could trust to take a sympathetic view of the nature of our business and our requirements".
