Smarter Building Podcast Ep. 7 - Digitising the NHS Estate
In this episode of our Smarter Building podcast, we caught up with Claire Orchard, Head of Digital Innovation at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) NHS Foundation Trust, on the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital twin and Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) NHS Foundation Trust is a well-established general hospital, offering a comprehensive range of acute medical services and expanding specialist services to meet the needs of the growing population in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. The hospital provides care to over 400,000 outpatients and more than 100,000 emergency department patients annually.
Join us as we dive into the world of digitising construction in healthcare facilities. Tune in to hear Claire's insights on the adoption of BIM, how MKUH are developing a digital twin and the challenges faced during this journey. Discover how these advancements enable the hospital to optimise their environment, improve patient care, and leverage IoT technology to create a truly smart, sustainable, and technologically advanced NHS trust.
"I think there's technology out there to be tested... I would encourage any NHS trust out there that feels that they can't or shouldn't to just get involved in testing and evaluating some of this technology. You don't have to put it into a live environment straight away. There are ways that you can start very, very small.
