The Autodesk Unified platform has been released – what does this mean for you?

The 9th February release of the new Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform is undoubtedly a significant landmark in the development of effective cloud design, collaboration, and field solutions for the betterment of all those involved in the design and build process. Having said that, we know that any change can bring uncertainty and feel it necessary to add some clarity around what Unified may mean for you. There is no need for concern as this is a process of evolution, not revolution and Symetri are here to help guide you as required. Please find below a summary of the most significant changes:

BIM 360 Design & Coordinate Rebrand and Additional Functionality

With immediate effect, Autodesk BIM 360 Design has been rebranded to Autodesk Collaborate Pro. Autodesk Collaborate Pro also encompasses the features of BIM 360 Coordinate which has now become BIM 360 Collaborate. New Collaborate and Collaborate Pro functionality will be automatically added to the solution over the coming weeks and months, with all existing functionality remaining.

BIM 360 Build Options

With immediate effect, new and existing clients needing to run additional projects will have the option to procure Autodesk Build as an alternative to BIM 360 Build. As the Autodesk Build platform has been developed to include the best functionality from both Plangrid and BIM 360 Build, there are currently some functional differences between the two products. We will be able to walk you through these differences and make a recommendation around the best platform for you in the short and longer term.

It’s important to note however that Autodesk Build is currently only available on the US server (estimated EU server availability will be later this year), so if EU hosting is required, renewing BIM 360 Build would be recommended.

BIM 360 Build Renewals

Any customer with BIM 360 Build licences will have the option to upgrade to Autodesk Build at their next renewal. However as stated, Autodesk Build is currently only available on the US server (estimated EU server availability will be later this year), so if EU hosting is required, renewing BIM 360 Build would be recommended.

Should you renew BIM 360 Build rather than transition to Autodesk Build immediately, you will have an entitlement to transition as and when the product becomes fit for your needs. Your Symetri account manager will be able to make a recommendation around the best renewal strategy based on your needs.

Autodesk Docs & BIM 360 Docs

Autodesk Docs, the new centralised document management solution for Autodesk Construction Cloud, will be included with both Autodesk Build and AEC Collection purchases moving forward.

Existing BIM 360 Docs customers will be able to continue to purchase, use and renew this tool as a standalone product, or in conjunction with BIM 360 Build/BIM 360 Design/BIM360 Coordinate for the foreseeable future.

We hope this provides some clarity around the upcoming changes but appreciate that it may raise some additional questions that need answering. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us should you have any further questions regarding your specific situation and the best options for you.

What is an LCA? 3 Examples of Life-Cycle Assessments in Building Projects

11 November 2024

A Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a powerful tool used to measure the complete environmental impact of a building project. It evaluates the carbon footprint and other environmental effects throughout a building's life, across four key stages: production, use, end-of-life, and beyond. Below are three examples of how LCAs can guide decisions for more sustainable building projects.
